On the same month I have moved to my new home, I got an email about my old home being nominated as one of the finalists for two categories at the Best Cebu Blogs Awards 2014 — Best Cebu Photo Blog and Best Cebu Travel Blog.
The 7th Annual Best Cebu Blogs Awards Night will be held at Avalon Building, Cebu Business Park on December 7, 2014
Imagine the excitement I felt about my blog being recognized by the only award-giving body for Cebu-based bloggers! I couldn’t be more thankful to the people behind Best Cebu Blogs Awards and its sponsors who continuously support and recognize the new breed of writers we call bloggers.
I have been blogging since 2007 when Multiply was the coolest networking site which I used more like a diary, talking about my personal thoughts and experiences as a teenager, a college girl whose focus went from studies to parties, growing into a young lady who learned how to move on from her first heartbreak. It was also then that I started making friends online with people who also used the same site for their blogs.
Then I moved to Blogspot which didn’t last long because I discovered WordPress and got more comfortable using their free platform. Thus, www.onlyvic.wordpress.com was born in 2009. It became the more improved and organized version of my first blog where I talked about similar topics – a virtual outlet of the things I didn’t normally talk about with my friends offline. For 5 years, my old home became an organic blog of expression with no specific niche to focus on.
After I gave birth to my son in 2011, I rarely posted entries on my blog due to lack of time to do so. Then in 2013, I got reconnected with myself and went on small trips that I have started to blog again.
After a year, I finally decided to move to a new home and take my blog up a notch. October 2014, I brought my old stuff to my firstly-owned site: onlyvic.com!
After over 7 years in the bloggerverse, I have now discovered my own niche — travel and volunteerism incorporated with each other. In this two-month old site, you’ll get to read about the recent trips I’ve done and the environmental-related advocacy I have been working on since after the super typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines.
To be a part of the Best Cebu Blogs Awards finalists along with top Cebu-based bloggers who have already been out there making their mark is more than enough for me to keep going and write my stories. My blog is not here to tell you the newest spot to stay at in your next vacation nor will I be giving any itinerary details because I live spontaneously and travel for a cause — to live through the eyes of a local, enjoy each experience, to inspire and learn from the people I meet along the way.
Here, I share my anecdotes.
